Google Upcoming Ultra High speed broadband network.

Imagine gaining high-speed internet access that would allow download of a high-definition, full length feature film in barely five minutes or streaming 3D medical image over the web? Yes that’s what part of Google’s latest experiment. The company reveals plans of building and testing ultra high-speed broadband networks in many trial locations across the U.S.

The official Google blog shares that the company had already urged the FCC to look at newer and creative ways to attain ultra high-speed Internet access. Now their own experiment will further work at doing this. The company intends to proffer Internet speeds that could be nearly 100 times faster as compared to what most Americans may have access to.

With 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections, Google plans to offer the service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. Experimenting with new ways that should render the internet better and faster, the company wants to know what developers or users can do with high speed internet. Whether it will give birth to next-generation apps or unimaginable services will particularly be enthusing to see.

The company plans to test new methods for building fiber networks that should help inform and support deployments elsewhere. Furthermore, it aims at operating an ‘open access’ network that will allow users to choose multiple service providers. The network will be managed in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent manner.

Google will collect responses until March 26, 2010. They will announce their target communities later this year.
